Epilepsy outpatient departments are regional specialist services offering diagnosis, treatment, and socio-medical support in cases of difficult to treat epilepsy. The also serve the epileptological education of independent physicians and people involved in rehabilitation programs for epilepsy patients. The epilepsy outpatient departments are attached to neurological, pediatric and psychiatric outpatient clinics or hospital departments.
Epilepsy outpatient departments must satisfy certain standards and are accredited by the German Society for Epilepsy. They also qualify as places to train doctors for the “certificate epileptology”.
At present, there are 97 epilepsy outpatient departments for children and adolescents in Germany [Update: 2023-12-05].
